Report
BUSA 07 Women's Start This year's BUSA orienteering championships was hosted by Durham University. Eleven CUOC members travelled north to take part in the individual race in Arncliffe Woods and the relay race on the Durham science campus and nearby woods. Despite Arncliffe containing more contours than the entirely of East Anglia, CUOC aquitted itself well and good consistency within the team meant that we finished the first day in third place overall. Oxford, Durham, and Warwick were snapping at our heels, however, so everything was up for grabs in the relays the following day. In the men's race, Alex ignored the swearing Oxford first leg runner, who had apparently followed the pack to the wrong first control, and managed to bring the team back in 5th place to hand over to Ben. An impressively short amount of time later Ben reappeared at the end of his leg to hand over to Alan, who steered us round the final leg to finish in 5th position, comfortably in front of Oxford and Durham, our main rivals for 3rd place overall. In the women`s race an excellent first leg by Anya meant that Clare took over in 2nd place. A good run by Clare, and all that was left was for Ele to finish the job and bring the team home in 6th position. The tension began to mount as we all failed to do mental arithmatic to find out if we had done enough to claim third overall, but a stressful amount of time later and the results were announced - CUOC were third overall! Congratulations to all involved during the weekend! Results at http://www.udoc.org.uk/busa
