Training Tour

Running up Steps

The training tour is the annual highlight for the club, whereby we can all improve our map reading skills and gain some fitness at the same time. It really is a difference orienteering in terrain such as The Lakes compared to the barren Fens!

Hostel

The annual training tour is an event that is organised by CUOC for the benefit of its members and it's affiliates, such as OUOC, and is often held in the idealic surrounds of The Lake District. Unparalleled complexity of the region is manifested by map features such as waves of contours and a plethora of crags making this one of the best places to train.

During the sharp, frosty mornings of early December, CUOC stay at a youth hostel or similar (see right) for a week of top quality training, and plan training courses for the locality, whilst spending the evenings chilling-out and playing various games within a coal-fire setting. Various training venues have included local beauty spots owned by The National Trust, fellsides and sand dunes.

Other Tours

There is usually a summer trip abroad for a week, often to a multi-day event such as the OO Cup in 2011.

In addition there may be other tours organised as and when somebody wants to organise them, for example we had a 3 day trip to Norway in June 2011 for just £80 including transport, accommodation, and food.
